Life had been a string of festivities since the new year came along.  There was Christmas last year, with all its turkey trimmings and holiday making festivities.  We took the boys down to Singapore for their first visit.  They woke up at 4am without making a great fuss to catch a flight.  I was totally surprised at how an exciting trip was able to motivate our two young sons out of their little socks.  If only James would wake up voluntarily to go to school every day like that.

We stayed in a nice looking hotel, four of us cramped together in a king sized bed for five nights.  I would wake up with James’s foot on my face, or find one of my legs hanging off the side of the bed in the morning  but none of us complained.  We were just so grateful and excited to have great accommodation at no costs, thanks to my spouse who was on a business trip.

We had a fine time with the hotel’s swimming pool located at their fourth floor.  Never mind if they didn’t have a kiddie pool or that there was massive construction going on next to their building or that the weather was always cloudy.  We didn’t complain about any of those too.  We were just happy there was water to splash around in.

My boys were not attracted to Singapore’s bright neon lights or her attractive flickering billboards as I had expected they would be.  They were more excited meddling with the MRT machines buying tickets and collecting their change in coins from the MRT machines after a ride.

There were no TV programmes offered which were suitable for the boys at the hotel.  For entertainment, they would slam the other brother’s head on the hotel bed and, seemed to be genuinely having a fun time.  These boys never cease to amaze me!

After Christmas, there was New Year and then, Chinese New Year.  It was also the school holidays.  Our family took on a different rhythm of life.  My children experienced much more freedom and flexibility.  There were excessively more TV watching hours, more junk food to munch on, thrown off sleeping schedules  and way too much sugar laden coke being consumed by these little beings, especially Brian, our two year old.

Then, school reopened and our family fell into a different steadier form of rhythm.  Nowadays James goes to school in the mornings, and Daniel attends afternoon sessions.  Papa goes to the office on weekday mornings and is back by dusk everyday.  The boys sleep and eat at regular hours. Finally, I thought, we have some form of consistency in our lives.   Or is this so?  That chapter of our lives will require another full write up!

It’s never too late to wish you, my readers, A Happy New Year 2009!  If you have not written your resolutions yet, this is the day to do so.  Every day is a new beginning!

Cheers!
